Cosmic Curios

Giants once roamed these lands. Okay, they didn’t roam so much as stand still and draw attention to local roadside businesses. In the 1960s, these 20-foot tall fiberglass giants began popping up around the country. Originally manufactured by California company International Fiberglass, and modeled after Paul Bunyan, these giants featured interchangeable hands and arms that allowed swapping in any number of accessories. They were later referred to as “Muffler Men” when companies began replacing the Bunyan axe with mufflers. Visitors to Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios (@buckatomson66 on Instagram) are treated to several of these giants all in one place including Buck Atom, Stella Atom, Piggy Stardust, Buck’s Vintage, and Meadow Gold Mack.

The Golden Driller Statue

After visiting the giants, and the on-site gift shop, travelers only have to drive a few minutes down the road to find the Tulsa Golden Driller statue, a 76-foot tall giant honoring Tulsa’s petroleum industry erected in 1966. Tulsa, Oklahoma truly is a land of giants.
